Septarian Nodules, affectionately nicknamed Dragon Eggs, are fascinating tri-colored concretions composed of Aragonite (brown), Calcite (yellow), and Limestone (grey). The term "Septarian" is derived from "Septaria," which typically refers to concretions featuring internal cavities or cracks.

These remarkable minerals have their origins in the Earth's Cretaceous Period, dating back 50 to 70 million years, in a captivating geological narrative. During this era, extensive volcanic eruptions produced molten sediment that attracted a plethora of marine life. As these ancient sea creatures perished, their chemical makeup became integrated into the surrounding sedimentary rock, gradually forming the distinctive nodules we admire today.

As global oceans retreated, the water within these concretions evaporated, resulting in extensive internal cracks. Over time, the chemicals within the remnants of these prehistoric sea creatures crystallized, giving rise to unique Aragonite "crusts" and drusy Calcite crystals, which contribute to the striking patterns found within Septarian Nodules. Most Septarian Nodules originate from regions like Utah or Madagascar, which underwent similar geological processes during that ancient period. These nodules exhibit a delightful array of colors and intricate patterns, adding to their allure. They are often polished into egg-shaped forms, earning them the moniker "Dragon Eggs" due to their crystalline formations.
